JV Football loses first place to Mustangs

The Mustangs stampeded the Cardinals in the race for first place in AAA JV football last month.

On Nov. 11, the JV football team lost its final game against Lincoln 0-8.  Although the Cardinals beat Lincoln in a scrimmage earlier in the season, the Mustangs came back ready to win, according to sophomore quarterback William Frankel.  “We took days off and got complacent.  They ran the ball up our gut and they didn’t take a play off,” he said.

Despite the defeat, the Cardinals played a strong game.  “Both teams played hard, and it came down to little mistakes, like dropped passes,” assistant coach Ronald Ng said.

According to Frankel, the JV team will continue to improve in coming years. “Next year we will definitely make the playoffs,” he said. “We have a mostly freshman team and I’m proud of them.”  Many of these freshman players are talented, but a few stand out, such as guard and linebacker Raymond Phelps and wingback Jamal Thompson, Frankel said.
