The gymnastics teams’ first meet of the season was a mixed bag. On April 7, JV smashed the Los Altos Eagles 166.5 to 129.2 on the Eagles’ home turf, while varsity did not have the same luck, and lost 134.6 to 139.35 in a close meet. Some performed with outstanding marks, such as junior gymnast Alexis Kinard, who placed second in Varsity Floor with 8.75 points.
Because the new JV beam routine had not been perfected, they had to use last year’s routine, and newer members had only one week to learn it. JV also prepared their floor routine with haste, as they had only practiced it the week before the meet. “Even with these problems, the meet was still really fun,” Chan said. Despite these setbacks, JV still beat the Eagles by a whopping 37.3 points.
Catch gymnastics at 6p.m. on April 15 at Gymtowne Gym against Burlingame, Mercy, and Half Moon Bay high schools.
