For the first time in about 13 years, the Lowell varsity girls’ volleyball team failed to qualify for playoffs, after losing to the Lincoln Mustangs on Thursday in three sets: 13-25, 22-25, 14-25.
With a final record of 8-3, the Cardinals are keeping their heads up high, knowing that they tried their hardest. Junior co-captain libero and setter Vivian Lei thought that their team had a lot of potential and good memories. "It is sad that our season ended like this, but one game should not define us. We all fought really hard and all made improvements," Lei said.
On Nov. 2, the Cardinals crushed the Galileo Lions in three dominating sets: 25-12, 25-23, 25-20. Junior defensive specialist Isabela Haeger thought that they maintained their focus and made sure to be sharp, especially as practice against the upcoming Lincoln game. "Today's game went as planned and it was good to practice our team chemistry," Haeger said.
Although they failed to make the playoffs, the girls can look to the future, with many new seniors on the horizon. Next year, the team will consist of many well prepared juniors and seniors as this year, the team will only be losing two seniors, according to junior outside hitter Reilly Fitzpatrick. "I know that we will make it to championships next year," Fitzpatrick said. "This year was a preparing year and we intend to make it count in 2011."
