The varsity girls' basketball team came out strong in its first preseason game of the season against the Sacred Heart Fighting Irish.

The Cardinals have won the championship for the past two seasons and do not plan to break their streak this year. After going into halftime down 22-14, the team knew it had to step it up.

With superior defense and help from the sophomores, the girls came back to defeat Sacred Heart 40-36.

Excellent performances by sophomore guard Kelly Wong and junior guard Katarina Lum made the most difference in the game. With a game high of fifteen points, Wong was the highest scorer, followed by Lum, who scored six. The girls will need their leading scorers and steady defense to power through another championship season.

Come see the Cardinals next Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Lowell as they take on St. Francis.
