The girls’ JV basketball team remains undefeated after dominating the Washington Eagles in the 48-42 championship victory on Feb. 10. Down by one point at the end of the first quarter with a score of 11-12, the girls stepped up their game in the later quarters. The team pulled away at halftime and prevailed 48-42. Freshman point guard Kelly Wong scored 17 points, bringing it home for the team. The Cardinals wrapped up the season with an undefeated score of 12-0.
The team earned a spot in the championships after defeating the O’Connell Boilermakers with a score of 67-32.
Most Valuable Players
The Lowell’s choice for JV girls’ basketball MVP s are sophomore forward and captain Maxine Lui and freshman point guard Kelly Wong.
Lui played well and brought the team together as captain. “Maxine kept the team organized on and off the court,” coach Christine Hosoda said. “She made things happen for our team.”
As captain, Lui supported the rest of the team to beat the opposition. “I tried to bring the team together so we work well on and off the court,” Lui said.
Wong ran the team’s offense and frequently controlled the ball in games, leading the team to many victories. Wong never gave up while playing and pushed through to the end. “Kelly was our silent leader on the court,” Hosoda said. “She was our leader by example.”
