On Wednesday, the cross country team outran the Galileo Lions and the Lincoln Mustangs in all three divisions in its third AAA meet.
The frosh-soph boys’, varsity girls’ and varsity boys’ teams all finished first overall, despite conceding the top place to their opponents. In the frosh-soph boys race, the Cardinals beat the second place Galileo Lions by 36 points, but Galileo sophomore Steven Chan finished ahead of second place freshman Lowellite Donald Chen with a time of 19:27. Chen finished in 19:49.
In the varsity girls’ race, the Cardinals finished with 21 points, the Mustangs with 34 points and the Lions with 85 points. Lincoln senior Anna Slotterback won with a time of 21:42, followed by Cardinal sophomores Susan Li in 22:52 and Emma Keenan-Grice in 23:06. Junior Caroline Chan and senior Eileen Li came in fourth, both finishing in 23:28.
The competition in the varsity boys’ race was the closest. The Cardinals beat out the Mustangs by only five points, 25 to the Mustangs’ 30. Lincoln senior Patrick Gray led the Mustangs with a time of 17:48. The top Cardinal finishers were junior William Chen, senior co-captain Corey Worthington and junior Alex Hillan, in times of 18:09, 18:36 and 18:39, respectively.
Come support the Cardinals in their last AAA meet next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in Golden Gate Park’s Polo Fields as they race the Balboa Buccaneers and the O’Connell Boilermakers.
