Bleachers filled with people from different schools, excited players, busy sport managers, and nervous coaches always make a great and highly anticipated volleyball game.

It was time for playoffs. Last Wednesday, the boys’ varsity volleyball team played hard against the Balboa Buccaneers, winning with a well fought and close score 3-2 qualifying to play in championships today against Lincoln, the other winner of the two playoff games.

During the playoffs, the Cardinals were off to a less than great start. Losing the first two sets to the Buccaneers 25-23, the Cardinals had to step up their game and energy level. “We got more excited later in the game when we won the third set,” senior outside hitter Chen Chen Huo said. “We were more excited because we still had hope to win, or else it’d be our last game.”

In addition to more excitement and adrenaline, the team changed their lineup after the first two sets. Senior middle blocker Spencer Wong was moved to opposite hitter and been replaced by middle blocker Jordan Wan. Sophomore Stanley Lin subbed for Wan whenever Wan rotated to the back and was about to serve. This new strategic lineup worked and the Cardinals continued to defeat Balboa with winning scores in the rest of the three sets: 25-15, 25-6, and 25-8.

Come support the boys’ volleyball team for the AAA league championship game today 6 p.m. at Lowell against Lincoln.
