Full of ferocious competitors throughout the Bay Area, the Mare Island sports center tournament on April 3 in Vallejo gave the boy’s varsity volleyball team a challenge with a victory after playing many close games. Snatching the second place medal in the gold division, the team won battles against fierce opponents, such as El Molio Prep and Nevada Union High. “We were neck and neck with some of the best teams,” senior outside hitter Chen-Chen Huo said. After excellent performances at the tournament games, the team looks to build even more trust and confidence with each other to play well in their upcoming AAA league games.
In a game against Balboa High, the team performed less impressively than at the Mare Island tournament, winning with a marginal score 3-2. “We cut it close when we played to five games,” senior outside hitter Brian Wong said. Packed stands cheered the team towards their win, but not without some errors. “We had some miscommunications,” Huo said.
Shy of a month until the AAA championships on May 7, the team is working to correct these mistakes and play their best in future games.
