Nothing can get between the varsity boys’ golf team and their spotless winning streak. In recent matches, the Cardinals prevailed over the threat of less than ideal weather and left their rival, the Eagles, in the sand trap.

May 5 marked the last match of the season before the playoffs for the Cardinals. They went out with a bang, defeating their two biggest rivals, Washington and Lincoln. The Cardinals finished with a team score of 215, compared to Washington’s 219 and Lincoln’s 286.

The golfers had a positive outlook on the outcome of the season — the team currently has a pristine 14-0 record — and their upcoming playoffs. “We’re confident. We’ve been practicing hard and working on our individual games,” senior golfer Sam Berry said. “We’ve been focusing on hitting solid shots, and playing our game, not someone else’s.”

Despite the ominous rainy weather on April 27, the Cardinals secured another victory with no trouble, defeating the Burton Pumas 221-313, while the Marshall Phoenixes forfeited the match. “Rain is just an element of the game that you have to take into account,” Berry said. “You can’t let it affect you.”

Come support the Cardinals at 3 p.m. on May 11 at Lincoln Park at their first playoff game against the Wallenberg Bulldogs
