Swinging their hardest and sliding to victory, the Cardinals are eagerly waiting to compete in the playoffs on May 4.

After suffering an unexpected loss last year to the Galileo Lions, the Cardinals made a comeback on April 21 and crushed the Lions 6-3. “Coming into this game when we were eliminated by this team in the playoffs and beating them this time was an accomplishment,” senior outfielder Chris Wang said. “I hope we continue to build on this win and ride this all the way to the championship.”

Cutting it close by no more than two points, the team came out victorious in both games against the Washington Eagles 5-3 and 4-3 on April 7 and 8, respectively. “I was impressed by how we played well consistently throughout the whole game, especially in extra innings on Thursday,” senior shortstop Dominic Schwartz said.

Besides the favorable outcomes so far, they also emerged with newfound confidence from the 60th Annual Lions Tournament in San Diego from March 29-31. “We proved to ourselves that we could overcome adversity with our performance in San Diego,” senior catcher Diego Solis said.

Compared to the 7 losses and 0 wins over the course of the last three years in the Lions Tournament, the team considered the victory a big accomplishment. “We were disappointed not playing a fourth game, but overall we were happy about getting wins in San Diego,” senior captain and centerfielder Michael Inouye said.

With the season wrapping up, the varsity baseball team has come through with an amazing season. “So far the season’s been a success,” senior designated hitter and pitcher Chris Chen said. “We’ve played well against tough out-of-league opponents in the three tournaments we've participated in.”

As the season comes to an end, the Cardinals look forward to dominating the playoffs on May 4 and 6 and taking the championships on May 13.

Come cheer for the team in their first playoff game at 3:30 p.m. on May 4, place and opponent TBA.
