The pressure’s on. Don’t choke. But this thought doesn’t worry senior swimming champion Nick Kwan as he strokes quickly through the water, tags the next swimmer in, cheers for his teammates in the varsity boys’ 200 freestyle relay for his team and yells in victory as senior anchor Stanton Huang breaks the All-City record at the AAA Swimming Championships with a time of 1:32.11.
Clearly an exceptional swimmer who tackles nerves like a master, Kwan exemplifies more to the team than just that. “Nick Kwan is quite possibly the nicest member on the team,” sophomore fellow freestyle swimmer David Liberman said. “He not only contributed as a strong swimmer, but as a roaring personality that inspired the team to swim faster.”
Kwan will truly miss his years of triumph with everyone on the team. “Swimming together, suffering together and partying together,” Kwan said. “The Lowell swim team will always have a special place in my heart and has taught me that I can’t get by on talent. Hard work and persistence always yields good results.”
