The heat is on. It's the top of the ninth and the Cardinal softball players are barely holding a 3-2 lead. Star senior pitcher Alina Werth hurls a fast pitch from the mound and, oh my, it’s a pop up! Who will catch the ball? Who will be the heroine today? Junior catcher Chloe Roddy rips off her mask, slides forward across home plate and narrowly catches the ball, snatching another victory for the team.
It’s no doubt that Chloe Roddy is a beast. Just a junior, Roddy has performed no less than perfect this season, averaging one home run per game. “She’s one of the best because she’s an all-around player,” junior left-fielder Angela Trinh said.
Regardless of injuring her knee in July at the Triple Crown World Series Tournament in Park City, Utah, Roddy still gives her all for the Cardinals. “My injury’s noticeable, but bareable,” Roddy said. “Playing softball softens the pain.”
