Cheer

They tumble, cheer and yell their way across the mat, ready to support our teams whether they win or lose.

Lowell cheerleaders never stop reaching their goals. After training camp, individual summer practices and even bake sales to raise money during the summer, they’re back stronger than ever.

From July 30 to Aug. 1, the girls intensively practiced fresh routines at Notre Dame High School in Belmont, Calif. They practiced new cheers and stunts, adding moves to their arsenal. “This year we have people learning how to tumble because it’s something we don’t do often and it will add a new twist to our routines,” senior varsity member Su Min Lin said.

With the new moves under their belt, the cheer team is jumping and flipping to prepare for the homecoming rally and the Powderpuff Game on Sept. 25. The tradition of the Powderpuff Game is where football players and cheerleaders switch positions — the boys cheer during halftime and the girls play football with seniors versus underclassmen. “It is going to be hilarious,” senior varsity member Lyrics Rabino said. “Every one should come and see it.”

With returning members and experienced senior varsity co-captains Tina Kwan and Amy Chau, the team is starting off on a good foot.

Support and enjoy Cheer at the homecoming rally and at the Powderpuff Game at 4p.m. next week on Sept. 25!

Song
Even after four years without a coach, the Song girls still strive to be the greatest in Cardinal spirit. Though they would appreciate a coach’s guidance and instruction, Song has proven themselves capable of winning on their own.

On Sept. 2, they mixed it up and performed for the first time at Parents’ Night  at the request of the PTSA. “It was fun to perform there simply because we were dancing together, which is what we love doing,” junior varsity member Shirley Hao said.

Since this year Song could not participate in a summer camp due to lack of funding and difficulties in scheduling between team members, they practiced three to four times a week throughout the summer. “We conditioned, stretched and worked on technique everyday to get ready for freshman orientation,” junior varsity member June Rustigan said.

Their hard work does not stop there. With Battle of the Birds right around the corner, they have to keep dancing to their goal. Song is keeping their eyes on the prize, getting their routines ready for Regionals and Nationals in Spring 2010.

In the meantime, be sure to watch Song at the Homecoming Rally next Friday and at Battle of the Birds at 7 p.m. on Oct. 9 at Kezar Stadium.

Senior Letter

This year marks the class of 2010’s time to shine and stomp out their Cardinal senior pride.

Emerging from tryouts in May, eight ladies proved themselves victorious over all other who tried out.

Senior Letter started off their year traditionally at Freshman Orientation showing off their stomp as eager newcomers to Lowell watched with anticipation. To do that, they worked long and hard throughout the summer, practicing every week after the spring semester ended. Working collaboratively, each member takes a part in creating the choreography for the routines we watch with eager anticipation at school events. “Many of us didn’t know each other before coming onto the team,” member Nicole Lee said. “Doing the choreography and practicing made us closer.”

But as with previous years, Senior Letter strives towards one precious goal. “We want to leave a long lasting impression for other Senior Letter teams to look at in the years to come,” Lee said. “If we could do one thing it would be to do something memorable.”

Even through the hustle and bustle of the new school year, cheer on Senior Letter at Homecoming Rally.
