Students encourage peer advocacy against military spending | Print |  E-mail
Apr. 30, 2010

Dear Editor,

Military spending is out of control. The government has been forced to cut spending on things like education during these economic times but the defense budget continues to grow. While the brilliant students of Lowell High School are kicked out of the school at five o’clock every day because we can’t afford security or to keep the lights on, the military spends and spends. There is only so much the illustrious student body can take before Lowell’s reputation as the “Smart Kid School” is forever tarnished.

Defense spending must be put under control and the money saved should be spent on more important things, like education. We have the ability to get our voices heard in Washington. If students are interested in making Change We Can Believe In, please locate Jennifer Monroe, Scott Davis, Cassandra Crider, Maria Castro, Ella Creedy-Hall, or Leon Hsueh for postcards that will be sent to Robert Gates, the Secretary of Defense.
