Dear Editor,

Lowell High School is a truly amazing place not because of the teachers, the facilities, or even the administration, but because it is we the students who are good at taking tests, buying prep-books to cram for our STARs, ACTs, SATs, APs, and any other acronym-laden tests that glorify Lowell High School as one of the best institutions that has ever existed on the face of the planet.

Lets fight a war for change. America is having one of its worst economic depressions since the 1930’s. Millions are out of work and people are ready for change.

As the sole staff member of YouthVote, I want to first thank The Lowell for the thoughtful commentary on the program. While I was disappointed that I was not asked to comment on the article before its publication, I am writing because I agree with the concerns raised and would love for YouthVote to be implemented at a deeper level throughout the school system.

I should like to comment on your Oct. 7 editorial “Annual rankings offer superficial assessment of school’s true merit.” One old adage for me that comes to mind is “You play to win.”

As a public education institution of academic excellence and rational thinking, we must object to Radio Lowell’s calling for students “to stand for ‘The Pledge Of Allegiance’” and then blaring it out throughout the school each morning.
