The school is currently modifying its tennis facilities in order to provide more space for the games’ spectators.

Baseboards located against the fence around the school’s tennis courts were in poor condition and have been removed to give fans a better view.

“The boards are mainly being taken down for viewing purposes,” varsity boys’ tennis coach Jimmy Rosenheim said. “The team wanted more people to come and be able to watch our games.”

In addition to taking down the boards, the school hopes to put up removable bleachers.

“The bleachers would be set up when there is a home game,” Rosenheim said. “When they aren’t in use, they would be stored and locked up near the track.”

Rosenheim anticipates the 30-inch tall bleachers would cost around two thousand dollars.

Members of the team agree that the removal of the backboards and adding bleachers to the courts is a good idea, and will definitely help attract more fans to the tennis games.

“It allows more parental and student support, ” senior boy’s varsity tennis player Dylan Tong said. “They don’t have to peek through the holes anymore.”

Although most players agree that bringing more attention to the games will be a good thing, the removal of the boards still provides one drawback.

The players often used the baseboards for tennis practice when there was no vacancy on the court, according to Rosenheim.

However, the school is also planning on adding new baseboards for the players to practice on, further down against the fence, where they won’t interfere with the view of the game, according to Rosenheim.

The team hopes that both the bleachers and the new baseboards will be up before the end of this year, so that the players will be able to utilize them as soon as possible.
