Students in the school’s marketing classes attended an annual automobile show to study marketing techniques on Dec. 2.
The students in Career Vocational Education, who learn about business and marketing techniques, went to the 52nd Annual International Auto Show at Moscone Center. The auto show featured many car companies promoting their brand-new cars. “Some companies showed concept cars of the future,” CVE teacher Norman Nager said. “What is special this year is that there will be alternative energy cars.”
This trip was beneficial to CVE students’ knowledge about the marketing world. “This trip is to help the students better understand how a company gets people to get interested and informed and to create a positive image about their product,” Nager said.
Aside from seeing new models, students were also allowed to go inside most of the cars. According to junior Ryan Mai, all the cars were open to attendees except for a few that were locked, like the Lamborghini and the Ferrari. “The auto show was an eye-opening experience,” Mai said. “It taught me a lot about the professional business and marketing world.”
For the field trip, students used video cameras from the school library to film a video clip of their favorite car. “Shooting the video was very fun and I am excited to see the finished movie,” Mai said.
After the video clips are done, students will put all the clips together into one whole movie. The film will likely be shown to classes after winter break to demonstrate the effects of marketing, according to Nager. “I did my video on a two-seater Chevy Corvette convertible because it is efficient and trendy,” junior Purnima Gurung said. “It was an automated car, with many features. It had a stick shift, a fully illuminated dashboard, a stereo behind the seat and a GPS system with a rearview camera.”
Nager will make the show a permanent addition into the CVE curriculum. For the spring semester class, students will attend the International Gift Show. “This show is for wholesalers advertising their product,” Nager said. “The class will go to the arts and crafts new design section.” On the last day of the gift show, some companies may even sell their products to attendees, according to Nager. |
