Advanced Placement exams are now mandatory for all social studies students enrolled in the courses.
The decision to make the tests mandatory will only affect a small number of students, according to social studies teacher Richard Girling.
This year the demand (for AP classes) was larger than before, said Girling. It would be unfair to give a person who doesnt intend to take the test the place of someone who does.
Many students take the courses for AP credit, and making the test mandatory will not affect the way the class is run, according to social studies teacher Monty Worth.
The test requirement doesnt rattle sophomore Julie Ng.
The test doesnt factor into your grade anyway, Ng said. I wasnt planning on taking the course in the first place, but I am, and Im really not worried about the exam. If you have to, you have to. |
