Winter formal prices reduced (12/09) | Print |  E-mail

The student government lowered this year’s winter ball ticket price to make the dance more affordable.

The Student Body Council priced tickets for the Dec. 7 to 11 early sale of the winter formal “Let it Snow” at $25 for students with a Student Activities Card and $30 for students without an SAC — a $7 decrease from last year.

This week’s tickets are $30 for students who have SACs and $35 for students without SACs — a $2 price decrease from last year. “We lowered the prices because SBC serves the entire student body and we want the entire student body to be able to attend,” SBC Dance Coordinator senior Katie Gong said. “When we lowered the prices we anticipated the number of people that buy tickets to increase.”

The lower ticket prices had no effect on the amount spent on the venue, or DJ, nor did it affect the hours of the dance, according to Gong. This year the dance will be held tonight from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Rincon Center, located in the South-of-Market neighborhood. “We’re not trying to make a profit,” said SBC Events Coordinator senior Brandee Ma. “We just want more people to be able to attend.”

Many students appreciated the lower ticket prices. “I was considering not going because I also have junior prom this year, but the lower ticket price changed my mind,” junior Cheryl Chan said.

Others see the price drop as a perk. “I’ve always wanted to go because it’s fun to dress up, but cheaper tickets make it easier to decide,” junior Heather Chu said.
