Adult members of the school community will have a chance to “twist again” like they did forty years ago.

The administration is holding a dance and silent auction on the approaching Jan. 16, 2010 to fundraise. The theme for this dance is “old school,” with a variety of popular music from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Instead of having a DJ and pre-recorded music playing, the music will be played by a live band known as “Rendezvous.”

According to principal Andy Ishibashi, the dance and auction will take place simultaneously with the auction at the Irish Cultural Center. This dance is aimed at parents and alumni, but is also open to the public ages 21 and over. There will be a mandatory semi-formal attire for attendees.

Ishibashi proposed the plan to faculty members at the Nov. 20 staff meeting, explaining the purpose of the night is to give back to the school community. “This year is going to be tough raising money, so this is my way of helping,” Ishibashi said. “The Parent-Teacher-Student- Association is always contributing money for the school, but what does the school do?” All proceeds from the dance and auction will go directly to the Lowell PTSA fund.

This is the first time the school will do a dance fundraiser exclusively for adults. If the fundraiser is successful, Ishibashi hopes to make it an annual event. Pre-sale tickets will be $30 and tickets at the door will be $35.

Ishibashi is currently organizing the auctioning event and will accept donations toward this auction.

Many teachers approve of the idea. Social studies teacher Richard Girling appreciates this proactive effort by the administration. “It is wonderful that the principal is personally taking this task to help the school,” he said.
