Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once had a dream. That dream is in process. Now, the boys’ varsity volleyball team also has a dream — to win the championships. That dream is also in process.

The team is racing towards that dream as they continue to trounce the competition. Among eight other high school volleyball teams, the Cardinals are ahead of the other team. Junior libero Kevin Dinh feels incredible about these wins. “We have skills,” Dinh said. “And we can execute.”

The team this year is solid to say the least, according to Dinh. “We have a very experienced varsity team,” he said. “We also have seniors who play for clubs, which helps make the team better.”
According to junior co-captain and opposite hitter Alvin Ho, the team is ready to do big things and possesses a high level of experienced newcomers this year. “They are much more experienced newcomers than when I was a newcomer,” Ho said.
Despite the Cardinals skill, the team fell to the Buccaneers’ hands on April 17
3-1. It was a tough game for both teams, and at the end it was  a Cardinal defeat. “I was surprised at this lost,” Ho said. “It taught us to work harder than ever.”
On April 3, the team went up against their biggest rival, the Lincoln Mustangs and defeated them 3-1. The entire game was filled with tension as the Mustangs were close to winning.  “There was definite improvement since the last time we played them,” Ho said.
A few days before, on March 27, the Cardinals continued their earlier winning streak, demolishing the Burton Pumas. Lowell scored a perfect score 3-0. At one point the Pumas almost had a chance of scoring a point. However, the Cardinals shut them down and won.
On March 25, Lowell clashed with Washington in a fierce Battle of the Birds matchup. The first game was very rocky, resulting in overtime. However, the team used the majority of their players, who gained valuable experience. “The newcomers gained good experience,” Dinh explained.  At the end, Lowell defeated Washington 3-0.
On March 20, the Cardinals destroyed O’Connell with another 3-0 score. The team did an excellent job executing and getting kills. “It was a decisive win because we played our best and didn’t let up,” Dinh said.
