Have no fear, Cheer is here!

Cheer
Have no fear, Cheer is here!
Cheer’s spirit and technique go further than basketball games— the team is dominating the competition with two impressive wins. They won first place at the AAA Competition in the Show Cheer with Stunts Division at Kezar against all of the San Francisco public schools’ Cheer teams on Dec. 13.
On Jan. 10, they won first place in the Varsity Co-ed Novice Show Cheer Division at the USA Regional Competition at Bear Creek High in Stockton. This competition featured schools from all over California and allowed them to qualify for nationals in Los Angeles from March 27-30.
The road to Nationals proves to be a long one, as the squad needs to raise money for the trip. “We sold cookie dough earlier in the year to raise money for that, but we’re planning to do more fundraisers,” junior Cheer member Su Min Lin said.

Song
As their struggles continue due to the lack of a coach, Song is working hard to choreograph their own routines to compete in regional competitions.
On Jan. 17, Song participated in the USA Regional Competition Varsity Song/Pom Intermediate Division at Deer Valley High in Antioch. “There were certain requirements that had to be in the routine for competitions, so it was challenging,” sophomore varsity Song member Fian Louie said.
Song placed fifth out of 15 teams total. On Valentine’s Day, Song attended the USA Song/Pom Regional in Monta Vista.
After working on their routine for the Spring Rally, Song will have clinics in March and April and hold tryouts near the end of April.

Senior Letter
Let me see you one, two, step and clap! During the month of January, Senior Letter worked hard to create a routine that would stun our Washington rivals and leave them with their jaws dropped. The routine would have included Senior Letter dressing up as nerds to mock the stereotype that all Lowell students are nerds, but time was tight at Battle of the Birds during halftime and they never had the chance to perform.
Senior co-captain Arman Liwanag was disappointed. “Hopefully, we will be able to perform our routine, because we don’t want it to go to waste,” he said. “We were really sad when we were not able to perform it.”
In late March, there will be an informational meeting for Senior Letter 2010 that includes clinics twice a week and tryouts in late May.
