During junior varsity basketball outdoor practice, with the winter arriving, the weather has been too much for the boys. “People are starting to get sick since it’s getting cold,” sophomore point guard team captain Casey Chow said. However, these shivering players are determinedly running suicides, and the weather doesn’t stand a chance against their amazing 5-0 season. Crushing each of their opponents by more than 15 points, every game has been a victory. On Dec. 9, Urban lost to the Cardinals 36-26. Three days earlier Carlmont also wasn’t able to triumph over the Cardinal boys. On Dec. 5 the vicious boys defeated Terra Nova on the court.  Yet again University was slaughtered 53-19 by the Lowell boys on Nov. 29. Four days before that, International lost 63-12. Even the boy’s first pre-season game against Drew was a significant 54-17 win that was a precursor to all their later victories.
The Cardinals have been training hard six days a week since Oct.13. “Now that we’ve started having only indoor practices, they have become a lot more productive,” sophomore center Thomas Kroner said. “But indoor practices involve a lot more running.”
The team looks back at last year in order to push themselves forward toward the Championships. “Last year we did great as a team,” Chow said. The boys were undefeated and won championships for the fifth year running. “Our goal this year will be to continue the winning streak,” Chow said.
This season, the team is loaded with strong freshmen and sophomores, guards and post players. “With almost all returning sophomores, we should have a strong team this year,” Chow announced.
This year, the star team player has stepped up his game. Chow is now the leader of the JV team, gaining the title of captain. “I have to lead the team and take on new responsibilities such as helping freshmen with plays or being able to play well to set a good example for the freshmen,” Chow said.
With a solid group of players and a good size on the frontline, the boys are ready to release their inner passion for basketball.  “The freshmen are undersized but make up for it with good guard play,” Kroner said. “We are playing well as a group and should be able to make a run at a championship this year.”
