This yearis a fresh beginning for the girls’ varsity golf team.

Even though they are dealing withchanges, the girls are 3-1 this season. Adjusting to new practices, and newmembers on the team, the loss of one coach, the girls “are taking time to workand improve slowly,” senior golfer Angeline Tang said.

Tanghas been on the team since sophomore year. She said that you have to bepatient, in order to see results, in golf.Over the last two years, the team has proved to bemore organized and has become capable of working with weaknesses on the field, senior golfer Holleigh McMasters explained.

The results are in. The girls had an amazing string ofvictories this season. The latest, involved occurring on Oct. 2 againstO’Connell. “We went there and tried our best,” sophomore golfer Chae Kim said.Kim explains that their coach Mitchell Wagner pushed them to keep up a goodattitude and help each other out throughout the game.

On Sept. 23, they pulled off another victory againstMarshall, where sophomore Chae Kim pulled off the lowest score. These successesfollowed an effortless game on Sept. 17 against Burton. Being well-preparedwith daily practices paid off for the girls.

This year the golf team has strapped on its seat belts andis headed toward the championships. According to McMasters, their “well roundedpractices, including spicing up practices” by applying different golf skillsand using drivers and irons, are better this year. Last year the golf teamwelcomed two new coaches, one of whom had to leave this year. Coach DougBullard left due to budget cuts resulting from JROTC’s impending end. Thereforecoach Wagner is continuing with the job. “He is really breaking it down byhelping individuals with the personal parts they need to work on,” McMasterssaid.

With a strong start to the season catapulted by Kim, the teamis lucky to have her. She has excelled since her freshman year, and was votedMVP of the team. "Golf is a sport of patience and I don't have that,” Kimlaughed,“Its helped and it's alot of fun to play with teammates and friends,” Kim said.
