Letting go of the end of the season also means giving up sports equipment, in this case “giving up the leotard was hard,” JV freshman Rita Charpot said. “Separation anxiety, you know?”
The girls’ varsity team placed 5th at CCS on May 15th at Gymntown. “We had fun and that's all that mattered,” sophomore Meagan Le said. “Our team goal was to qualify for CCS, and we had a great time and a fun experience,” Le said. Lesley de Dois is so proud of her girls for making it to CCS. "I believe everyone had an awesome meet and despite some falls on each event, all the girls got their highest all around of the season," de Dois said. The Cardinals’ goal was to score 155 and the team achieved a team score of 164. "It was nerve-wracking thinking about getting the 155 score," Le said. Le also explains that there were "three girls from JV on our team for bars that helped bump our score, but overall we felt prepared." “There is something very unique about having your entire team try to pile onto the highest block,” freshman Rita Charpot said. Even though she didn't perform her best on vault, she achieved the highest score, so she felt that she “deserved to be with the team,” according to Charpot. “Everyone did, because everyone did their best-It sounds cliche, but its true!” She explains that she saw girls on bars get their kips, who didnt get them all season, and that bumped out a few points higher then if they just did a pull over. It was a great meet for the girls and they felt that they deserved it. The JV girls placed first in the JV SCVAL North Finals at Gymntown on May 2nd "This year Ms. Jank was out for most of the starting season, which was hard, but we had Coaches Leslie and Cece help us out," junior Ivy Li said. "Since Ms. Jank was out for so long and it was Cece's first year at Lowell as a coach, it was very difficult getting things organized and together, but Cece helped us improve our routines and pushed us to do our best," Li adds. She expalains that they have worked hard as a team and learned from one another pulling though. Being a dominating force the girls won all but one of our meets. "Even though we worked hard and even had practice during spring break, we also had lots of fun, bonded, and grew closer as a team. Towards the end of the season, we all became a big family," Li added. "Without any one of these girls we wouldn't have the amazing, hilarious, strong team we have," de Dios said. "Every single person plays such a huge role and is a big support for one another and I am so proud and this has been such an amazing season getting to know each and every girl," de Dios adds. Will next year be too much to handle for the vicious girls as they are dominant? "It will mean a new team of people, another family, and new friends," Le said. “This year was the first time for a smaller team and the groups had to work together and help each other learn. "As the season progressed we learned more skills each week changed our routines where we placed in new stuff and harder stunts which caused for higher scores," Le said. Next year the girls will also have to adjust to the absence of their coach Ms.Jank. She will retire after teaching for 34 years, being head of the P.E. department, has been a great help for all these years. “She has never done gymnastics in her life, but is a wonderful coach because she understands the sport and knows how everything should be.” Coaches de Dios and CeCe in the other hand will we joining the girls next season. MVP Junior Elyse Cheung-Sutton joined the team last year as a sophomore. She has been on varsity for both years and has never competed before last year, but has trained gymnastics. Being the oldest Varsity team member she is a skilled gymnast and makes up a huge core of the team. Helping other and sharing her skill she has helped the girls in their successful season. |
