It was the first big step in the season when the Cardinals won their opener against Drake High School, 3-2, on Wednesday February 13th.
“It’s always a challenge to beat the private schools,” junior defender Liliana Pedroni said. “We are now able to dominate like we always do.” And dominate they have. Lowell won its league opener against Washington 5-0 on March 4 and beat Lincoln by the same score two days later. The team then crushed Galileo 3-0 on March 13 and rolled over ISA 6-1 on March 11. The ISA game was an especially easy win for the Cardinals. “The Cobras formed within the 24 hours (prior to game time), not having enough time to practice together,” midfielder sophomore Alyssa Goldberg said. As if the Cardinals needed any more help, they are now at full strength after sophomores Rachel Baskin and Kenny Ludlow have returned to the field with basketball season over. Lowell’s successful domination of its opponents comes from hard work and tough practices, according to sophomore defender Shira Kogan. One of the Cardinals’ goals is to “steadily improve and get ready for their Transbay match,” Goldberg said. With soaring hopes, the girls look forward to championships, like the Transbay tournament, which will include more competitive opponents. One such opponent is Oakland Tech High School a team that has a vicious goalie. Though Lowell lost to this team last year, this year’s girls made a comeback by tying in their preseason game. The Cardinals also faced an exciting match against a Canadian team from British Columbia, on MARCH 18 AT LOWELL. The Cardinals hope to continue their domination in their next game against Balboa on April 1 is at 4 p.m. at Lowell. |
