Principal on maternity leave (4/08) PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Written by Sandra Chen
The principal has selected a substitute to fill the vacant position of assistant principal in charge of buildings and grounds. Ellen Reller, an Advanced Placement testing coordinator at Lowell, is substituting for assistant principal Janée Montelongo, who recently left on maternity leave.
Reller “was the most logical choice,” principal Andy Ishibashi said. “She worked with Mr. (Steve) Granucci with the AP testing. An important part of the job is to administer tests. There will be a sort of continuity with her.”
The job also includes managing the campus facilities, but Reller is not worried. “Montelongo trained me for all of that before she left,” she said.
Reller was picked out of a pool of seven candidates, including a few who are current teachers at Lowell, according to Ishibashi. “It would be hard to have someone new take the job,” he said. “It’s also hard to take teachers out of their classes mid-semester.”
According to Reller, Montelongo will be returning at the start of the next school year.
