Craving pizza but lacking a direct flight to Italy? Unfortunately, even a three mod lunch doesn’t offer enough time to travel to Rome; however, three mods are sufficient to take a quick trip to Seniore’s Pizza, located at 2415 19th avenue near Taraval.
Pizza lovers can create their own pizza from an array of toppings or choose from the many specially-made pizzas Seniore’s has to offer. Whatever your favorite pizza may be, you're guaranteed to find a “cheap, quick bite.” Slices range from $2.30 to $3.20, while “family size” pizzas — easily chomped down by a group of friends — range from $16.60 to $24.40. A highly recommended topping for a single slice is pesto. Despite a heavy slathering, the normally overpowering pesto flavors merge well with the cheese. If pesto happens to be on your "foods I hate" list, a simple cheese or pepperoni slice can send your taste buds into a frenzy — as will a combination of feta cheese and black olives. Seniore's is not stingy when it comes to slice size. One will leave you stuffed, or at least sufficiently fueled, for the rest of your school day. Larger appetites will enjoy full-size house creations like the Greek Special ($13.41 to $23.96), with feta cheese, black olives, fresh tomatoes, pesto and fresh garlic, offering an exciting twist on an Italian classic. Carnivores will appreciate the Meat Lovers Special ($13.41 to $23.96), with pepperoni, salami, Canadian bacon, marinated chicken and sausage, while vegetarians can please their palettes with the Salute Vegetarian ($13.41 to $23.96), with mushrooms, onions, artichoke hearts, fresh tomatoes, fresh garlic and spinach. Unfortunately, specialty pizzas cannot be ordered by the slice. For those rare souls that have a bizarre dislike for pizza, have no fear; the menu doesn't stop there. Seniore's garlic bread is a warm, appetizing alternative that does not have the blandness of some other Italian restaurants. Salads are on the menu, like the simple caesar with chicken, although you will only appreciate this option if you enjoy your salads dry. Chicken wings and mozzarella cheese sticks with dips, such as sun-dried tomato and ranch, are also available. Seniore’s prides itself on fast preparation — most orders generally take around five to ten minutes. However, Seniore's is well known in the pizza-loving community so a long line can often be found trickling out of the closet-sized restaurant. Luckily, you can order in advance by calling (415) 661-2222. Unfortunately, the décor of Seniore’s does not match its incredible taste — one gets the impression of eating a slice of heaven in the Art Wing bathroom. The place is small and offers little seating, so you're probably better off picking up your order and eating somewhere else. Whatever you choose, don’t give away your crust like some pizza eaters mistakenly do. It is hands down the best part of the Seniore’s Pizza experience. 4 out of 5 stars |
