Union campaigns for Prop. A PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Written by Larry Yee
The teachers’ union is planning several events in April to generate support for a June ballot proposition to improve teachers’ salaries, benefits packages and working conditions.

“The first Saturday in April, we will be starting neighborhood campaign walks,” union building committee co-representative Ken Tray said. Tray is one of many union members campaigning for The School Parcel Tax, Proposition A, which would levy a tax on properties in San Francisco to help raise teacher salaries. The proposed teacher salary schedules which reflect the parcel tax can be found at the union Web site (uesf.org).

Volunteers will distribute literature and discuss Prop. A with community members, according to Tray. The union is planning a campaign rally later in April, when members will use a phone bank to inform the community.

Tray is confident that the campaign will be successful.

“The SF Labor Council, the Chamber of Commerce, the San Francisco Democratic Party are all in support to help pass the proposition,” Tray said. “We have the endorsement of all the elected officials of the city including the mayor. We have some of the state legislature on board, too.”
