SBC buys new sound system (2/08) PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Written by Sandra Chen
The school now has a new $12,000 sound system that the student government purchased using money from fundraisers and dances.
“The Student Body Council doesn’t have as many expenses as the senior student government like prom and senior escape,” senior SBC president Carter Chung said. “We had a bunch of money sitting around and thought it would be good to replace our old sound system.”
Chung explained that the sound system is needed at many SBC events including rallies, and other assemblies.
The new system is made by speaker manufacturing company Audio Dynamic, which bought the company Pacific Sounds that manufactured the school’s old speakers, according to head technician Darcy Villere.
“The new stereos have a six-disk player, a DVD player, projector, a tape deck, 18-inch speakers and three cable microphones,” he said. “The stereos can theoretically project sound for 5,000 people. The old sound system’s speakers were shot. I’ve asked SBC to buy new ones for a couple of years, and after the mishap with Winterfaire, it became one of those things we just had to get.”
At Winterfaire last semester, the social studies department faced difficulty during its dance when their music selection skipped and interrupted their routine.
“We’ve had the last sound system for about 15 years and it is no longer dependable,” Chung said. “We figured that we’re going to have these for another 15 years. The new equipment will be available in time for the annual Talent Show.”
