Holiday weekend dance brings students together PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Written by Eve Denton
The third annual Thanksgiving Thizzle, a dance open to all Bay Area students, will be held on Nov. 20 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Irish Cultural Center.     Several Lowell juniors and seniors organize and run the dance, which is not sponsored by any  one school and open to all students, as well as to alumni.
“I like how the dance provides opportunities to meet kids from other schools, something that you can’t really find at a normal school dance,” said junior Desiree Choy, who attended last year.
The purpose of the dance, according to senior Chris Colbert, one of this year’s organizers, is to “rock the house” and provide entertainment over the five-day weekend. The dance also gives alumni a chance to reunite with old friends.
Last year, the same students who organized the Thanksgiving Thizzle attempted to host a second dance in the spring, the Spring Slapper. The dance was cancelled, however, due to a city-wide blackout.
The tradition began in 2005 with Class of ’06 alumni Jake Blanc and Jack Lazarus. The first Thizzle was a huge success, netting approximately $3,600 dollars and bringing over 400 students together, according to Blanc.
