Four years of intensity, commitment and development undoubtedly land senior co-captain Ananda Rochita.
The Lowell’s pick for MVP of girls' golf. Her development over the past four years, as well as golf scholarship offers from schools such as Sacred Heart University and Concordia University, reflect her dedication and hard work during her high school career. "If Ananda works at it and gets with the right teachers, she can take golf as far as she wants to," coach Lee Silverstein said. Throughout the past four years, Rochita has helped lead and support her team. The team's AAA league championship on Oct. 30 at Lincoln Golf Course was Rochita's fourth. Despite coming in last place in this year's infamously competitive Nor Cal Tournament on Nov. 6 at Yoloo Fliers in Sacramento, California, Rochita called the experience "pretty fun." "It was an easy course with flat lawns and few trees," Rochita said. "It was easier than the All-City course." The Nor Cal Tournament marked the end of an era led by stars Rochita and senior co-captain Katrina Delen-Briones. "It was our last tournament, so it was really sad," Rochita said. "our coach told us he was really proud." A lot of better players in the city have been showing up, according to Rochita. "it's kind of scary," she said. "Honestly, I don't know if we are going to hold up because we don't have a lot of solid (seasoned players." Rochita hopes that with formal practices over the summer, the team will remain on top. As for next year, Rochita plans to play her heart out in Division I collegiate golf. "There will be a lot of opportunities to play, as well as to travel," Rochita exclaimed. "I'll be participating in a lot of amateur tournaments, so I'll see how it goes and where it takes me. When I was a freshman, I just wanted to play because of the cute guys." |
