Cards silence Wash. fans with clutch road win (10/07)
Written by Heejin Hwang
Walking up the stairs to the Washington gym was like walking through a battlefield. As members of the girls’ JV volleyball team tried to find their way, they found a mob firing insults like bombs, one after another, in a continuous attack. Washington students shouted obscenities and followed the players inside, persisting even as the game began.

“They were so rude,” sophomore defense specialist Samline Santos said. “I don’t think they represented their school very well.”

Tennis thriving under new coach (10/07)
Written by Anthony Clay
Experience.

In all sports, the experienced player dominates. The best coaches are the ones who take their experiences and teach them to their players.

For the girls’ tennis team, Jimmy Rosenheim is all it needs. Rosenheim brings six-years of coaching experience to the Cardinals. He was the number one ranked singles player in college two years ago. He has also competed in national tournaments and played five months of competitive tennis in Italy. On top of that, one of his former tennis coaches was a Wimbledon quarterfinalist.

Injuries, heat exhaust X-country's talent (10/07)
Written by Sandra Chen

The new low-fat, dry, cracked cookie being sold in the cafeteria that cries for the sweet relief of milk can only be compared to the first Center Meet course in Crystal Springs, the latest conquest by the cross-country team. Albeit, the plentiful hills that appeared on the course do not grace the cookie as great mounds of chocolaty goodness, the cross-country team polished off the meet like a ravenous student wolfing down a cookie during Mod 8.

In 26 seconds, a 15 year-old boy could probably scarf down about three of the cookies, however, in those twenty-six seconds, sophomore Tamara Purpura distanced herself from eighty-three other runners, nabbing 6th place in her race.

Cardinals survive stormy flight into Eagles' nest (10/07)
Written by Jenny Ng
Walking into enemy territory, the Cardinals prepared themselves for a good fight against the Washington Eagles during the annual Battle of the Birds.

The team started strong until a stroke of bad luck hit. In the first game, junior middle Marianne Koo injured her leg when sophomore right-side hitter Nicole Lee fell on it. Koo was out for the rest of the game. Without her, the Cardinals had to switch their line up around. Things were not looking up for the Cardinals.

ASL, football cross-dress, cross paths to raise money (9/07)
Written by Eve Denton and Belinda Hu
Fall means football — windy Saturday mornings spent watching skinny boys in tight shorts tackle each other, and most of all, enjoying the performers who make up Lowell’s contribution to the American Spirit League.

Offense, defense clicking on all cylinders for soccer (9/07)
Written by Julia Kotzian
The boys’ soccer team’s 3-2 win against Marshall on Sept. 13 is pushing Lowell closer to the championships. With this win and the victory against Lincoln on Sept. 11, the Cardinals improved to a 12-2 overall record.

JV football comes from behind for historic preseason (9/07)
Written by Dylan McHugh
A Lowell fan might be forgiven for thinking that the JV football team was defeated with 17.5 seconds to spare, after the Mills High offense drove down the field for a touchdown that put them up, 17-16 at the Sept. 6 game.

Cross-country strides along Oregon trail (9/07)
Written by Sandra Chen
If it were quiet enough at the worn-down track, you could probably hear the rip of muscle tissue as the lax legs of summer get abused. That's right, the cross-country team is at it again, but this time, each runner is competing for one of the 12 coveted spots to race in Portland, Oregon.

New coach spearheads Cardinals' quest for victory (9/07)
Written by Anthony Clay
“Win”: That’s the goal freshman Karen Etin has set for herself, echoing the sentiments of the rest of the girls’ varsity tennis team. The only problem is accomplishing it.

Height non-issue for JV squad (9/07)
Written by Heejin Hwang
One of the best thrills in volleyball is showing opponents twice your height that they’ve got nothing on you. They can hit as hard as they want and yell as loud as they want, but when all of their hits are dug and serves are passed, they begin to slowly comprehend whom they’re up against.

Fast start for golf with win over Eagles (9/07)
Written by Julia Kotzian
The rest of the girls’ golf season will have to be epic to avoid being anti-climactic.

Lowell opened its season against its biggest rival, Washington, Sept. 5.

V-Ball asks: Can you hear me now? (9/07)
Written by Jenny Ng
Coach Reva Vrana has high hopes for the girls’ varsity volleyball team this year. “My goals are for the girls to go out, play hard and win every single game,” she said. “I expect the girls to work on complimenting each other and be equals on the court. I want them to inspire one another and love volleyball every single day.”
