No, Clewes is not talking about the Summer Olympics, but about the upcoming Stanford Invitational from March 27 to 28, a prestigious event that includes high schools like James Logan High School in Union City, whose women’s track team ranked second in the nation last year.

Senior Evan Brydon was on the mound for one of the biggest preseason games of the year. It sounds odd that a preseason game would have such importance, but Lowell was playing the Saint Ignatius Wildcats for the first time in four years. The West Coast Athletic League, Saint Ignatius’s league, is widely regarded as the most competitive in the Bay Area, and Lowell wanted to prove they could compete at a higher level.

As expected, the cross-country team annihilated the “competition” at the All-City meet on Nov. 14. And as expected, the team quickly became lost in the dust as Southern Californian teams sped ahead at the California Interscholastic Federation State Championship in Fresno on Nov. 24.

Senior wingback Bismark Navarro’s accomplishments do not seem very impressive. On the other hand, they’re mind-boggling.
In Lowell’s grind-it-out offensive attack, it seems like anyone can succeed. Throw out one of the seemingly endless supply of wingbacks and let him walk behind his line for an easy four-yard gain. When the monotonous offensive juggernaut finally reaches the goal line, the coaches can handpick who gets the touchdown.
However, Navarro’s 30 touchdowns and 400 yards rushing are not just a product of being the coaches’ favorite.
