Softball Ready for Season (2/08)
Written by Tiffany Leung
Coming off an almost perfect season last year, this year’s softball team has some pretty big shoes to fill.

Track trains for top meet (2/08)
Written by Sandra Chen
“The race is for elite athletes,” sophomore distance runner Reilly Clewes said. No, Clewes is not talking about the Summer Olympics, but about the upcoming Stanford Invitational from March 27 to 28, a prestigious event that includes high schools like James Logan High School in Union City, whose women’s track team ranked second in the nation last year.

Strong pitching, defense lead baseball to tie vs. Wildcats
Written by Avi Baskin
Senior Evan Brydon was on the mound for one of the biggest preseason games of the year. It sounds odd that a preseason game would have such importance, but Lowell was playing the Saint Ignatius Wildcats for the first time in four years. The West Coast Athletic League, Saint Ignatius’s league, is widely regarded as the most competitive in the Bay Area, and Lowell wanted to prove they could compete at a higher level.

Basketball living and dying by the three-pointer (2/08)
Written by Avi Baskin
THE FIRST TIME the boys’ varsity basketball team played the Wallenberg  High School Bulldogs, they lost by three points, when senior guard Alex McNabb’s last second three-pointer hit the back of the rim and bounced astray. The second time the Cardinals played Wallenberg, it was the Bulldogs’ turn.

Second place JV girls' b-ball go out like champs (2/08)
Written by Jenny Ng
The JV girls’ basketball team never goes down without a fight. No matter how hard the girls fall, they will always get back up.

Swim team training to keep win streak alive and kicking (2/08)
Written by Vietanh Phuong Tran
Clear water. A splash. A form glides just underneath the surface. Then the veil of liquid separating it from the air above parts, and a swimmer’s arms and head cut the water with grace and seeming ease.

Varsity girls' basketball breaks Eagle curse (2/08)
Written by Anthony Clay
“Big games are usually hyped up,” Los Angeles Laker coach Phil Jackson said. “You win big games by beating the hype. You beat the hype by having composure.”
The girls’ varsity basketball players have exemplified Jackson’s words. A display of composure was all it took to beat the hype and their cross 19th Avenue rivals, Lincoln, on Feb. 5.

2-22-08/sports/guys tennis
Written by Julia Kotzian

There’s a reason why love is zero in tennis — it means nothing. Following this theme, the boys’ tennis team shows no love for its opponents, playing aggressively and fiercely.

Cross-country meets familiar fate: loss at State (12/07)
Written by Sandra Chen
As expected, the cross-country team annihilated the “competition” at the All-City meet on Nov. 14. And as expected, the team quickly became lost in the dust as Southern Californian teams sped ahead at the California Interscholastic Federation State Championship in Fresno on Nov. 24.

Navarro gave rare face to mostly anonymous offense (12/07)
Written by Michael Lazarus
Senior wingback Bismark Navarro’s accomplishments do not seem very impressive. On the other hand, they’re mind-boggling.
In Lowell’s grind-it-out offensive attack, it seems like anyone can succeed. Throw out one of the seemingly endless supply of wingbacks and let him walk behind his line for an easy four-yard gain. When the monotonous offensive juggernaut finally reaches the goal line, the coaches can handpick who gets the touchdown.
However, Navarro’s 30 touchdowns and 400 yards rushing are not just a product of being the coaches’ favorite.

Unexpected team unity benefitting JV girls' bball (12/07)
Written by Jenny Ng
Bursting with new faces and new talent, the JV girls’ basketball team is in for a great season.

Trouble with refs can't slow down JV basketball (12/07)
Written by Wendy Tyler

The JV boys’ basketball team isn’t exactly off to a hot start. Then again, the Cardinals are undefeated.
