Written by Bonnie Tong
In medieval Europe, knights jousted in the name of a fair maiden’s honor and eagerly rushed forward to save damsels from distress. But for Lowell fencers, the roles were reversed on Feb. 13. The girls’ division won a close match, 5-4, while the boys suffered from a 3-6 loss to Washington.

Baseball flawless in league play (3/08)
Written by Avi Baskin
The worst thing you can give a competitive sports team is pathetic competition. That is exactly what the varsity baseball team has faced in the AAA this year. The Cardinals have outscored their first four league opponents 78-4.
The real test this season for the varsity baseball team comes not in league play, but in exhibition games. The Cardinals travel across the state to face teams of similar caliber. So far, they have seen stiff competition.

Track trains for top meet (2/08)
Written by Sandra Chen
“The race is for elite athletes,” sophomore distance runner Reilly Clewes said. No, Clewes is not talking about the Summer Olympics, but about the upcoming Stanford Invitational from March 27 to 28, a prestigious event that includes high schools like James Logan High School in Union City, whose women’s track team ranked second in the nation last year.

Strong pitching, defense lead baseball to tie vs. Wildcats
Written by Avi Baskin
Senior Evan Brydon was on the mound for one of the biggest preseason games of the year. It sounds odd that a preseason game would have such importance, but Lowell was playing the Saint Ignatius Wildcats for the first time in four years. The West Coast Athletic League, Saint Ignatius’s league, is widely regarded as the most competitive in the Bay Area, and Lowell wanted to prove they could compete at a higher level.

Written by Avi Baskin
THE FIRST TIME the boys’ varsity basketball team played the Wallenberg  High School Bulldogs, they lost by three points, when senior guard Alex McNabb’s last second three-pointer hit the back of the rim and bounced astray. The second time the Cardinals played Wallenberg, it was the Bulldogs’ turn.
