The buzzer sounded and all of the players were in position on the court, but had the game really started? While the ball was continuously pounded across the net, the Drew players seemed to make little attempt to retaliate, as if they were still practicing. The Cardinals’ fantastic teamwork and all-around great skill had them stumped.
“It was a good day for us to work on techniques,” junior outside hitter Karrie Liu said of the Aug. 31 preseason game.
Sophomore setter Katrina Lau agreed. “We were ready; it was a good game to open with and to test where we were as a team, our strengths and weaknesses,” she said.

Those who don’t understand the depth and strength of this year’s JV girls’ volleyball team might compare it to a mad scientist stirring up crazy experiments, seeing how the components don’t fit the obvious criteria for a championship team. But this stellar team creates its own formula for chemistry and success.
Take sophomore outside hitter Elaine Ngo, who played as a libero last season. Usually outside hitters are the second tallest offensive players on the team next to the middle blockers. But Ngo, at a miniscule five foot one, breaks that rule.

What defines the look of a champion? Is it the piercing glare that emanates from the eyes? Or is it the confident pose struck in that defining moment of victory? Whatever it is, the girls’ tennis team has it.
They glared down the Washington Eagles in their first official league match on Sept. 14, making a clear statement that they are the favorites in the AAA by winning every match they played.
