Sophomore swimmer Henry Quach steps onto the diving block for the boys’ 50-meter freestyle. The cheering from his fellow swimmers is already fading from his mind. As he dives into the water, he has cleared his head of every thought so he can concentrate on his goal — to beat his biggest opponent: himself.

    When Freddie Mercury from Queen sang “Another One Bites the Dust,” he could have been describing the opponents of this year’s Cardinal track team.

Sophomore pitcher Jacob Gleason steps up to the pitcher’s mound and throws a curveball. The Lincoln batter swings and misses. “Strike three, you’re out!” the umpire shouts  — Gleason has earned his fourteenth strikeout. Such was Gleason’s performance in the Cardinals’ walloping of the Mustangs on March 20.
