I was shocked that The Lowell would run a letter to the editor out of the blue from a person who is not a member of the Lowell community and supports what one can only call fringe theology regarding teaching of evolution, (Babu G. Ranaganathan).

The first week of school featured a new posture. It’s called “the slouch” — formed when students must lug textbooks around the school and back and forth to home.
Classes often begin with textbook distribution, even though students have nowhere at school to store books. Many students have three or four heavy textbooks that they have no choice but to haul around for more than a week.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill on Sept. 7 to give preschools an additional $50 million to hire and train teachers as well as fund school programs. He signed the bill after voters turned down Proposition 82 in June, which had proposed more money over a longer period of time.
The new bill will help ease the current strain on the state, but its major effects won’t be evident for another two years, according to Karen Burch, a former teacher for the California Head Start Association, which provides preschool education to low-income families. “Every penny helps,” Burch said. “But not all of it will affect the children currently enrolled. They still have to train new teachers and build facilities.”

Pre-teens glued to their computer screens because of online chat rooms and Web sites like MySpace are often unaware that other users are not always who they claim to be. Ten-year-old “Liza” who likes chocolate cake and Green Day may actually be 43-year-old Bob, looking for easy prey.
Last month, after a six-month investigation, Petaluma police arrested 29 sexual predator suspects. The majority are from the Bay Area, three from San Francisco. At present, the Sonoma County and Santa Rosa police departments are preparing reports that include evidence in the form of computer communications, videos and phone calls, according to Petaluma detective sergeant Matthew Stapleton, a central figure in the investigation.

In the midst of arguements over evolution and intelligent design,it is very unfortunate that many who are educated in our society believe that scientists have already created life in the laboratory. No such thing has ever hapened.
