The sixth floor of San Francisco’s Main Library is home to a vast collection of books, print media, photographs, maps, posters, archives and manuscript collections documenting all aspects of San Francisco life and history. The archive houses copies of old magazines, newspapers and even issues of “Seventeen” dating back to 1970.

    “Just be creative with it,” Do It Yourself Fanatics club president junior Tina Lin said as she held up a piece of red fleece. “Do what you want. You can even add ears to it!” The club promotes creativity and embarked on another project on Nov. 30: a winter hat.

Flying across the field: Frisbee Club expanding

Empty pie tin covers and hungry college students have a lot in common. They were the beginnings of a new sport. In the early 1960s, New England college students discovered empty pie tins from the Frisbie Baking Company could be thrown and caught, providing endless hours of fun. The game spread to college campuses and parks across the country.

Community left unaware of recent muggings in area (12/07)

Parents and students are not being notified of recent muggings as a result of staff reductions.
A sophomore whose name was not released was mugged on Sept. 14 at Lakeshore Plaza around 7:30 a.m. by an attacker with a knife. The attacker was injured by the student in the process of stealing the student’s money.

On May 15,1995 in Haverhill, Massachusetts Debra Forte was found dead after being beaten about the head and shoulders and stabbed multiple times in the chest. Three years later on Aug. 4, the police humiliated and tortured Luana Junior da Silva Lago in Bahia, Brazil, forcing her to throw herself into the sea where she drowned. Both Luana and Debra were transgendered.
