Principal cleans up senior prank (11/07)

    The senior class continued the tradition of senior pranks, decorating the school with eggs, flamingos and the customary stacked tables on the morning of Oct. 23.

 
Dragonboat team fundraises (11/07)

    The dragonboat team is fundraising for a trip to Vancouver for a race by hosting the third annual Paddle-a-Thon on Dec. 15 at Lake Merced.
    “We will be paddling 100 kilometers for 12 hours,” junior dragonboat member Melissa Hu said. “We will be starting at 5 a.m., and hopefully finishing before the sun goes down.”
 
District to offer swim classes (11/07)

   Spring semester swim classes will most likely be held at the pool at St. Ignatius due to the remodeling of Charlie Sava pool.
 
Faculty locks plague faculty (11/07)

    Recent construction decreased the number of faculty bathrooms and caused a series of problems with doors and locks.
     According to union building co-representative and science teacher Katherine Melvin, the Americans with Disabilities Act construction project calls for all of the teachers’ bathrooms to be wheelchair accessible.  Workers had to remove the “privacy walls” around toilets to allow for wheelchair accessibility, and the faculty bathrooms now have only one toilet.

Venezuela ensemble inspires audience with variety of music (11/07)

English and foreign language teachers are waiting for repairs after copper wiring was stolen from air-conditioning and heating units that provide temperature control to T-139, T-137 and T-141 on an unknown date during early Oct. or late Sept.

For the fourth annual Cure for Cancer Faculty vs. Students Basketball game on Nov. 30 at 3:45 p.m. in the gym, the faculty is taking on a new slogan.   
 
Student creates portable masterpiece (11/07)

On one side, St. Anthony of Padua carries the baby Jesus in his arms. On the other, St. Francis of Assisi prays in front of San Francisco landmarks — like the Golden Gate Bridge, the Palace of Fine Arts and the Transamerica Tower.
    These images are painted in vivid detail on the panels of a suitcase, a project social studies teacher Steve Schmidt commissioned to senior art student Casey Martinez in May.
 
Teachers raise funds by performing dares (10/07)

The Class of 2008 Senior Prom Committee is holding a fundraising event called Dare-a-Teacher to raise money for senior prom in May.

 
Visiting educators from China observe classes (10/07)

A delegation of 17 middle and high school English teachers from Zhongshan, China visited the school Friday, Oct. 12. The group, guided by Shield and Scroll members, toured the school and observed American teaching methods.
 
Junior skit ban stemmed from admin. decree (10/07)

The junior class spirit skit was canceled hours before its scheduled performance at the Homecoming Rally due to controversial content.

“The junior skit indirectly made fun of (former interim principal Amy) Hansen,” social studies teacher and Lowell Student Activities Director Steve Schmidt said.
