With the pressure on, sophomore Monica Hui eyes her opponent like a hawk spying its prey. She rushes to the net for the kill, as the University player like a crippled mouse feebly lobs the ball over the net, setting up Hui for a slam in the far corner for the win, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6.
With Hui and senior Melissa Chungs doubles win, the girls tennis team took the overall match on Oct. 14 against University, 5-4.
In the singles bracket, sophomore Lana Tsodikova, the number-one player, dominated her opponent, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
"I just had to keep focused."

The game "wasnt that hard," Tsodikova said. "I just had to keep focused."
Following Tsodikovas lead, three singles players, senior Micaella Cabral, junior Alice Le and sophomore Marianna Tishchenko all won their matches for a clean sweep of the singles bracket.
Such dominance, however, was not matched by the Cards doubles division. Despite the victory of Chung and Hui, the rest of the Cardinal duos lost. Seniors Rachel Peterson and Michelle Yu fell, 6-0, 5-7, 5-7. Seniors Stella Tan and Janelle Lee lost in straight sets, 2-6, 0-6. Juniors Marina Kuperman and Ellen Lee fell 5-8, and junior Christine Lee and sophomore Dana Wong lost as well.
Not every match was as contested as the one against University.
"Galileo forfeited our match, and we swept both Mission and Burton 5-0, in three singles matches and two doubles matches," coach Terence Doherty said.
Following University, the Lady Cards also triumphed over International Studies Academy, winning 7-0 on Oct. 14, boosting their in-league record to 5-0.
The Oct. 19 game against Lincoln was rained out and rescheduled for Oct. 20.
Even before the ISA blowout and the delayed Lincoln game, the Cards had already been assured of an extended season.
"We already clinched our spot in All-City," Doherty said.
The All-City Championships in Golden Gate Park began yesterday and will continue today at 3:30 with additional matches from Monday, Oct. 25 through Friday, Oct. 29.
